Prepare your portfolio data
Export your holdings from your broker as a CSV. Minimum columns needed: Stock/Asset name, Ticker symbol, Number of shares, Purchase price, Current price, Purchase date. Most brokers have an export function in Account → Reports → Holdings. If your broker does not offer CSV export, you can manually create a spreadsheet with these columns.
Sign up for PopAI Pro
Go to popai.pro, create an account, start the Pro trial. The AI Sheets module is a Pro feature required for portfolio analysis. The trial gives you full access to test the platform before committing. Review their privacy policy before uploading any sensitive financial data.
Upload your portfolio CSV
In the Sheets module, drag and drop your CSV file. PopAI parses the structure and shows a preview. Confirm the column headers are recognised correctly. If any columns are misidentified, you can manually remap them. Consider anonymising sensitive data (removing account numbers, personal identifiers) before uploading.
Ask for a performance summary
In the chat panel type: "Calculate my total return in percentage and dollar value for each position and for the whole portfolio." PopAI writes the formulas, calculates the results, and shows them in a formatted table. You can ask follow-up questions like "Which are my top 3 performers?" or "Show my worst performing positions."
Compare to benchmark
Type: "My portfolio start date was January 1st 2024. How does my total return compare to an equal S&P 500 investment over the same period?" PopAI references S&P 500 index data and shows the comparison. This tells you whether your stock-picking is actually beating a simple index fund — the most important question for any self-directed investor.
Generate a monthly report
Click "Generate Report" → "Portfolio Summary". Set the reporting period. PopAI produces a PDF-ready report with your holdings, performance chart, top/bottom performers, and asset allocation breakdown. Save this monthly to track your progress over time. Export and store locally for your records.
Frequently Asked Questions
Does PopAI connect to live stock prices?
Not currently — it works with data you upload. For live portfolio tracking you need a dedicated tool like Portfolio Visualizer or your broker's built-in tools.
Is my financial data safe in PopAI?
Review their privacy policy before uploading sensitive financial data. Consider anonymising data (remove names, replace with codes) before uploading. Do not upload account numbers or passwords.
Can PopAI calculate unrealised vs realised gains?
Yes — ask: "Calculate my unrealised gains and realised gains separately based on purchase price and current price." You will need to include sold positions in your CSV for realised gain calculations.
Does PopAI work with cryptocurrency holdings?
Yes — as long as your CSV includes crypto positions with the same column structure. PopAI treats all assets the same for calculation purposes.
What format should my portfolio CSV be in?
Standard CSV with headers. Minimum columns: Asset Name, Ticker, Shares, Purchase Price, Current Price, Purchase Date. Most broker exports match this format.
